We’re excited to spotlight Michael “Mike” Lopez as our September Volunteer of the Month! Mike is a semi-retired tech industry professional who brings wisdom and authenticity to his role as a Leadership Coach. After a successful career in technology, Mike began his Braven journey as a Mock Interviewer, volunteering twice before stepping into the Leadership Coach role. He has since served as a Leadership Coach for two semesters of Braven’s signature Accelerator course at Northern Illinois University in 2025!
Mike was immediately drawn to Braven’s mission and the opportunity to help young people gain the confidence and skills needed to thrive in their careers.
“I was impressed with the mission and the program. I enjoy coaching young people and helping them grow their business knowledge. I enjoy the mix of students’ backgrounds, both academically and personally. It makes it even more interesting.”
His thoughtful, encouraging approach has helped Fellows at NIU feel seen, supported, and empowered as they navigate their personal and professional journeys.
Outside of the classroom, Mike brings the same energy and commitment to one of his biggest passions: The Chicago Bears. Fun fact: he’s attended both Chicago Bears’ Super Bowls in 1986 and 2007!
As for Mike’s advice for the next generation: “Stay hungry for knowledge. Learning and growing will always help your future.”
Thank you, Mike, for your incredible commitment and for being such a meaningful part of the Braven community.
