About our students

Nationally, only about one quarter of the 1.4 million students who are the first in their family to go to college or who have limited financial resources will graduate and secure a strong first job or enter graduate school.

Braven serves thousands of students, providing them with a greater chance of securing a strong career after college graduation.

College is only half the battle

Braven volunteers help level the playing field by providing students with support, structure, connection, and inspiration as they enter their careers.

Our volunteers support students in building strong professional networks, which are essential to secure a strong first job, and graduate school admission. In doing so, they also distinguish themselves by leading where it matters most.

How can you get involved?

Our growing network of volunteers plays an invaluable role by showing up for students and helping equip them with the skills, networks, confidence, and experience to launch a strong career. All our programs are virtual for volunteers and offer meaningful opportunities to connect with others, make a lasting impact, and develop the next generation of leaders.

FAQs

You don’t need prior experience as a mentor or coach to volunteer as a Leadership Coach or Mock Interviewer. Prior mentoring experience is required for our Professional Mentor program. For all three programs, we offer strong training and support for our volunteers.

The Braven community is made up of leaders who are driven, empathetic, and curious. Our volunteers are passionate about expanding opportunity and eager to work with leaders from all backgrounds. They welcome feedback and embrace opportunities to learn, grow, and hone their own leadership skills alongside Braven Fellows.

No, all of our opportunities are virtual. Leadership Coaches might have the opportunity to join a session or two in person, but it is optional.

For our Leadership Coach and Professional Mentor roles, we require a background check after acceptance to ensure the safety and well-being of our students, given the deep level of engagement our volunteers have with them. The background check is conducted by B&B Reporting, a trusted third-party partner with 25+ years of experience.

Volunteering with Braven gives you hands-on experience in mentoring and coaching, which strengthens leadership, communication, and coaching skills necessary in any career. Many volunteers also say that guiding Fellows expands their own professional networks and provides insights that enhance their career growth.
