About Braven

Highlights

Our founder and mission

Aimée Eubanks Davis, a proud Chicago South Side native and former 6th-grade teacher, founded Braven to address the unfulfilled promise of college for many young people. She saw that college, though considered a sure path to economic mobility, often lacked something crucial for students from humble backgrounds as they transitioned from higher education to the workforce.

Braven’s mission is to empower college students by equipping them with skills, networks, experiences, and confidence to secure strong first jobs. In collaboration with forward-thinking higher-education partners, volunteers, and employers, Braven supports these young individuals on their journey towards meaningful careers and lives of impact.

It's official!

In 2013, Aimée Eubanks Davis started Braven—then called Beyond Z—to ensure that every young person in the United States could access a clear path from college graduation to a strong first job. In the first year, the team started with four pilot programs, three with K-12 students and one with college students.

Our first school partner

The initial college pilot included 17 students from San José State University. They thrived in the program, and faculty at SJSU took note. Three deans in the sciences were particularly enthusiastic. They had seen too many promising students miss out on strong job opportunities after graduation, and they recognized that Braven could be part of the solution. In the fall of 2014, SJSU offered a second pilot on their campus for SJSU students alone, and 60 participated.

First time offering course credit

Braven and SJSU formalized our partnership and launched Braven’s Accelerator as a credit-bearing course for the first time. That same fall, Braven expanded our reach to the East Coast and launched at Rutgers University-Newark.

Joining the Chicago community

Braven secured our first college partnership in founder Aimeé Eubanks Davis’ hometown, Chicago. National Louis University began offering Braven’s Accelerator Course for credit in January of 2018.

The launch of BravenX

In response to growing demand from college success organizations, we launched a pilot of BravenX, which allows students to access Braven’s Accelerator Course online, no matter the college they go to.

Setting up shop in the Big Apple

Braven launched our fourth site at Lehman College (part of the City University of New York system) in January 2020.

Many firsts at two new sites

Braven launched our fifth site in Atlanta, at Spelman College. There, Braven’s Accelerator Course is both credit-bearing and a course requirement for all sophomores. That same year, Braven partnered with Northern Illinois University to offer our first intentionally fully virtual course.

City College of New York and Braven build a formal partnership. As Braven approaches our 10 year anniversary in August of 2023, we’ll celebrate having over 7,000 Fellows.

About the Role

As Braven scales its centralized-course model to serve more Braven Fellows across an expanding portfolio of higher education partners, the Associate Director, Program Success plays a critical role in ensuring a high-quality course experience. This individual is responsible for managing a pool of part-time Graders. You will reinforce Braven’s ever-evolving grading strategy and systems, ensuring strong alignment with academic policies and campus-specific norms.  Additionally, this manager serves as the primary point of contact for our volunteer career coaches, whom we call Leadership Coaches (LC’s) during the term, responding to questions, escalating challenges, and ensuring they feel connected and supported. This highly collaborative role blends execution, coaching, and quality assurance to help deliver an exceptional experience for both Fellows and those who support them.

This role will be on the Innovation Team’s Central Delivery Team and report to the Director, of Academic Success.

What You’ll Do

Stakeholder Management (40%)

  • Supervise and support a pool of part-time Graders for the Braven Leadership and Career Accelerator course, including onboarding, quality assurance, and feedback cycles.
  • Collaborate with Program Facilitators and Associate, Academic Success to implement volunteer support and accountability structures, including coaching for underperforming LCs.
  • Co-design and lead grader training cycles and communities of practice (regular peer learning groups) to ensure grading consistency and alignment with  Higher Education Partnerships standards.
  • Provide escalation support and intervention for Graders struggling to meet expectations and coordinate closely with others to ensure high-support LCs get what they need to influence student outcomes in the course

Course Data Management & Analysis (40%)

  • Ensure rubric adherence and grading turnaround times are met across all sites and sections.
  • Implement periodic audits of feedback quality and ensure clarity and alignment to learning objectives.
  • Manage grading performance dashboards and share trends and insights with the Central Delivery leadership team.
  • Support struggling students through a tiered academic intervention framework, including direct student engagement, communications, and supports, tracking, working with higher education partner intervention systems and contacts

Leadership Coach Experience and Retention Support (15%)

  • Partner with Associate, Academic Success and CDA teammates to maintain a high-quality, joyful volunteer experience through consistent communication, resources, and recognition.
  • Track volunteer engagement, issues, and performance in systems like Salesforce, escalating to appropriate teammates when interventions are needed.
  • Lead targeted coaching sessions for struggling LCs and contribute to onboarding and training.

Team Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing (5%)

  • Partner with cross-functional CDA teammates to build and refine scalable systems that support grader and volunteer success.
  • Share insights from grading and LC data to inform product, training, and course design improvements.
  • Document and socialize best practices, participating actively in Braven’s knowledge-sharing ecosystem.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Demonstrated empathy and effectiveness in working directly with secondary or college-level students from diverse backgrounds, particularly in moments of academic struggle or stress.
  • Proven ability to analyze academic data to identify trends and proactively address student learning needs through direct intervention or by delegating tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of work experience in a related field
  • Experience managing and supporting part-time staff or volunteers, including the ability to delegate effectively and provide clear, constructive feedback.
  • Strong interpersonal and coaching skills, with the ability to support and mentor volunteers and facilitators, including those with significantly more experience or seniority.
  • Exceptional customer service skills, with the ability to communicate clearly, patiently, and professionally with students, staff, and volunteers.

About the Role

As Braven scales its centralized-course model to serve more Braven Fellows across an expanding portfolio of higher education partners, the Associate Director, Program Success plays a critical role in ensuring a high-quality course experience. This individual is responsible for managing a pool of part-time Graders. You will reinforce Braven’s ever-evolving grading strategy and systems, ensuring strong alignment to academic policies and campus-specific norms.  Additionally, this manager serves as the primary point of contact for our volunteer career coaches, whom we call Leadership Coaches (LC’s) during the term—responding to questions, escalating challenges, and ensuring they feel connected and supported. This highly collaborative role blends execution, coaching, and quality assurance to help deliver an exceptional experience for both Fellows and those who support them.

This role will be on the Innovation Team’s Central Delivery Team and report to the Director of Academic Success.

What You’ll Do

Stakeholder Management (40%)

  • Supervise and support a pool of part-time Graders for the Braven Leadership and Career Accelerator course, including onboarding, quality assurance, and feedback cycles.
  • Collaborate with Program Facilitators and Director, Academic Success to implement volunteer support and accountability structures, including coaching for underperforming LCs.
  • Co-design and lead grader training cycles and communities of practice (regular peer learning groups) to ensure grading consistency and alignment with  Higher Education Partnerships standards.
  • Provide escalation support and intervention for Graders struggling to meet expectations and coordinate closely with others to ensure high-support LCs get what they need to influence student outcomes in the course

Course Data Management & Analysis (40%)

  • Ensure rubric adherence and grading turnaround times are met across all sites and sections.
  • Implement periodic audits of feedback quality and ensure clarity and alignment to learning objectives.
  • Manage grading performance dashboards and share trends and insights with the Central Delivery leadership team.
  • Support struggling students through a tiered academic intervention framework, including direct student engagement, communications, and supports, tracking, working with higher education partner intervention systems and contacts

Leadership Coach Experience and Retention Support (15%)

  • Partner with Director, Academic Success and Centralized Delivery of the Accelerator teammates to maintain a high-quality, joyful volunteer experience through consistent communication, resources, and recognition.
  • Track volunteer engagement, issues, and performance in systems like Salesforce, escalating to appropriate teammates when interventions are needed.
  • Lead targeted coaching sessions for struggling LCs and contribute to onboarding and training.

Team Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing (5%)

  • Partner with cross-functional CDA teammates to build and refine scalable systems that support grader and volunteer success.
  • Share insights from grading and LC data to inform product, training, and course design improvements.

In order to achieve its ambition of serving 80,000-100,000 Fellows over the next decade, Braven is hiring an Associate, Recruitment – New Jersey who will be responsible for recruiting and enrolling Fellows (students) into the Braven Accelerator course at the Higher Education Partnership per semester to meet annual goals. 

To achieve these results, you will recruit and manage a part-time student recruitment intern and Braven Student Ambassadors. You will work closely with Central and Regional recruitment teams, as well as the Rutgers-Newark team to help you reach your goals. This role is critical to meeting the Dallas-Fort Worth Region’s $7.8M fundraising goal in the first year. It involves cultivating and managing philanthropic and employer partnerships, supporting volunteer recruitment, engaging and helping to build the Dallas-Fort Worth Board, and advancing Braven’s brand. 

This role is on the Dallas-Fort Worth Region team and reports directly to the Executive Director (ED), Dallas-Fort Worth Region.

What You’ll Do

Development (35%)

  • Support the ED to establish the Dallas-Fort Worth region’s fundraising strategy, and work with ED and Braven’s development team to complete the Dallas-Fort Worth region’s annual revenue game plan.
  • Track the Dallas-Fort Worth region’s revenue progress to goal and overall weighted pipeline; project manage the implementation of the Dallas-Fort Worth region’s quarterly action plans and adjust as needed based on lessons learned.
  • Support the ED in stewarding donor relationships with excellence; leading prep/follow-up, joining most regional meetings, and owning a portfolio of relationships.
  • Partner with the ED and Braven’s development team to identify, vet, and cultivate new prospects; conduct research on priority prospects and create individualized cultivation plans.
  • Strategize with the ED to secure and prepare for donor meetings by leading meeting prep and follow-up (e.g. drafting emails, creating agendas, and customizing meeting collateral).
  • Strategize with the ED on how to engage donors through the Moves Management stages and project manage the execution of next steps, from making an ask to securing a commitment and stewarding relationships effectively to win a renewal.
  • Review grant application and report drafts, and support the central development team in submitting high-quality narratives/data on time.

Employer Partnerships & Volunteer Recruitment (15%)

  • Partner with the ED to create the Dallas-Fort region’s Employer Partnership (EP) strategy for revenue, volunteer, and program opportunities – identifying EP prospects, building a pipeline, researching and creating engagement plans.
  • Serve as a conduit of information about the Dallas-Fort Worth region’s program needs, deeply understanding nuances and priorities, and advocating for shared-value solutions for Fellows and EPs.
  • Manage a portfolio of ~5-10 Dallas-Fort Worth region local EPs, recruiting volunteers, preparing meetings, sourcing opportunities, and (co-)hosting events.
  • Collaborate with the central EP team on local contacts for EPs in the national portfolio, joining the ED or taking the lead with the central EP director in meetings.
  • Support in-person events at EPs for Fellows.
  • Support volunteer recruitment through in-person info sessions, tabling, and personal outreach with national and local partners.

Board Management (15%)

  • Support the ED on the recruitment of Dallas-Fort Worth board members –  identifying and vetting board prospects, partnering with the central team on briefs, developing cultivation and engagement plans.
  • Prepare the ED for their 1:1 meetings/engagements – customize meeting collateral, lead meeting prep, and follow-up.
  • Project manage all board meetings – collaborate and coordinate across teams on the draft of the management memo, run of show, deck, pre- and post-follow-up emails; note-taking during meetings.

Operations (15%)

  • Create action plans for the quarter, month, and week to achieve goals across workstreams, adapting and adjusting when we’re not hitting shared goals.

About the Role

In this role, you will work collaboratively across teams to guide initiatives that empower students to secure strong first postgraduate opportunities, which is Braven’s north star outcome. As a member of the Design team, you will shape and implement the Post-Accelerator programming strategy, adapting priorities based on emerging insights, data, and research to maximize impact.  

This role is on the Product team and reports directly to the Head of Design.

What You’ll Do 

Set vision & direction for the Post-Accelerator programming strategy (45%)

  • Based on data and research, develop and continuously reevaluate our strategy for supporting students after the Accelerator so that we achieve our strong first opportunity outcomes goals 
  • Engage in rigorous analysis and collaboration processes to reimagine the strategy as needed over time to align decision-making with the Head of Design and Chief Product Officer (CPO) 

Manage pilot initiatives to determine strategic path forward (30%)

  • Design and oversee strategic pilot initiatives that address Braven’s most pressing needs and opportunities in Post-Accelerator programming, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and strategy
  • Collaborate closely with the Research Team to develop learning objectives and evaluate pilot outcomes to assess effectiveness and scalability, providing clear recommendations for the strategic path forward

In this role, you will be part of the engine behind our work with our Higher Education Partner. This role will help ensure smooth program logistics and provide other administrative support as assigned. 

This role is part of the Greater Boston regional team and reports directly to the Senior Director of the Greater Boston Region.

What You’ll Do 

Coordinate Logistics for the Accelerator (80%)

  • Prepare weekly Fellow communications using the Weekly Email Fellow Templates, ensuring accurate links and inclusion of all region-specific announcements
  • Prepare weekly Leadership Coach (LC) communications using the Weekly Email LC Templates, ensuring accurate links and inclusion of all region-specific announcements
  • Prepare cohort discussion board threads in the course
  • Support discussion board management in the course
  • Manage site inbox (using regional inbox templates as needed)
  • Student Support and Intervention – Assist in the process by reviewing case note completion weekly and  data analysis to identify trends 
  • Review the grader playbook data weekly to identify trends at the site
  • Assign weekly LC subs and share the weekly coverage report
  • Serve as a Substitute LC as needed (last option)
  • Coordinate in-person Learning Lab logistics, including space, materials, food, and other logistics

To achieve its ambition of serving 80,000-100,000 Fellows over the next decade, Braven is hiring a Senior Director who will be responsible for the programmatic success of Braven at The City College of New York (CCNY). They are responsible for ensuring that the students who complete Braven’s course, the Accelerator at CCNY are empowered with the skills, confidence, networks, and experiences to secure a strong first job or enroll in graduate school within 6 months of graduation. They maintain a positive and strong presence at CCNY and in the New York City community. 

The Senior Director will lead a team of 2-3 full-time employees and a team of part-time interns. The Senior Director will also be responsible for collaborating with our volunteer recruitment team and selecting volunteers. Together, you and the Executive Director (ED) will build and maintain a positive and strong presence with CCNY.

This role is on the Regional New York team and reports directly to the Executive Director (ED) of New York. 

What You’ll Do 

Deliver Site Outcomes (40%) 

  • Oversee and ensure strong local program implementation at CCNY, including the pre-course, course, and post-course experience, to meet programmatic goals.
  • Drive regionally owned program elements, including (but not limited to) local programming, learning lab implementation, and data collection for job campaigns.
  • For the elements of the program delivered by the central teams they serve as a check for school satisfaction and alignment with local student needs and campus culture, providing feedback to the central teams in a spirit of partnership and continuous improvement.

Effectively Manage Stakeholders (40%)

  • Develop and steward strong and formalized partnerships with CCNY’s leadership and faculty, employers, and community-based organizations that result in additional resources for our students and improvements to our program model.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with key CCNY stakeholders that foster collaboration and result in a healthy partnership.
  • Act as the “mayor” and “campaign manager” of Braven’s relationships with CCNY, deeply understanding the ecosystem, owning local relationships (faculty, professor of record, etc.), and running local campaigns on campus.
  • Build a collaborative team culture of individuals committed to achieving excellence, meeting site goals, and living out Braven’s core values.

Create Vision and Strategy for Higher Education Partnership (10%)

  • Co-create a strategy in partnership with the ED for CCNY and drive stakeholders towards the shared vision.
  • Utilize the deep understanding of the local context and assets available to knit together an overarching strategy that brings the right programmatic and structural enrollment support to the campus.
  • Set goals and key performance indicators for CCNY that drive scale and strong first opportunity outcomes among Fellows and are aligned with Braven’s local and national priorities that are set in partnership with central teams.

Team Leadership and Management (10%)

  • Lead and manage the Program Staff

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Develop and steward strong and formalized partnerships with the HEP leadership and faculty, employers, and community-based organizations that result in additional resources for our students and improvements to our program model.

  • Acting as a strategic thought partner to regional and national program leaders to align systems with instructional needs and programmatic goals.

Team Management and Cross-functional Leadership (30%)

  • Directly managing a sub-team of central operations specialists, supporting their professional development and performance to drive results.
  • Collaborating with senior program and regional leaders to set annual goals, align priorities, and implement operational strategies that maximize productivity and impact.
  • Driving continuous improvement through data-driven decision-making, regular feedback loops, and targeted interventions to strengthen execution.
  • Representing Program Operations in cross-functional leadership spaces and steering committees.

Innovation and Strategic Scaling (20%)

  • Designing flexible operational models to support varied academic calendars, such as semester, quarter, and summer terms.
  • Partnering with the Higher Education Partnerships team and Product team to incorporate customized course elements for institutional partners.
  • Leading the development of compliance, risk management, and quality assurance systems to support Braven’s growth and sustainability.
  • Championing innovation across operational systems, ensuring the organization can adapt and evolve in service of Fellows’ success.
  • Partner with the VP of Program Operations to determine the future organization and division of responsibilities across the Accelerator Operations team
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

Minimum Requirements 

  • BA/BS degree
  • 8+ years of experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role with a proven track record of team development

Preferred Qualifications 

  • BA/BS from a Braven higher education partner
  • Significant non-profit professional experience
  • Experience scaling programs to a similar size and scale as Braven
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Slack, Jira, Salesforce, Excel, and Tableau
  • Experience with Form Assembly, Campaign Monitor, and Mogli
  • PMP certification
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and leadership abilities
  • Demonstrated success in planning and managing efficient operational processes
  • Aptitude for systems management and improvement, including streamlining processes and problem-solving
  • Strong ability to prioritize, delegate, collaborate cross-functionally, and drive results
  • Commitment to continuous learning, constructive feedback, and professional growth
  • Demonstrated commitment to building strong and welcoming cultures that help to develop others.
  • Adaptable problem-solver, comfortable with ambiguity and able to translate complexity into clear solutions
  • Experience that has informed your belief in Braven’s mission and has prepared you to work with or for Braven’s student Fellow population.

Work Demands

  • Ability to work in-person in Atlanta (GA), Chicago (IL), New York ( NY)  or Newark (NJ) at least 3 days per week
  • Ability to travel approximately 6 times per year to other Braven locations 
  • Ability to travel to in-person Braven events, including some evening and weekend events as needed

Compensation and Benefits

Braven offers competitive base salaries based on the midpoint of the market among not-for-profit organizations of similar size, with opportunities for salary growth over time. We believe in compensating staff members fairly in relation to each other, their qualifications, and their impact on behalf of the organization, and take internal and external equity seriously. Given our commitment to equity, Braven does not negotiate salary offers; instead, each salary offer is determined carefully using external and internal benchmarking.

New hires can expect a starting salary at the beginning of the range to allow room for growth with performance and so that Braven maintains internal equity. The salary ranges, by geographic market, for this role are set forth $105,500-$131,800 in Atlanta, $111,300-$139,100 in Chicago, and $122,500-$153,100 in New York and Newark, NJ. This is based on a 50-hour work week at an hourly rate. This is a full-time, regular, exempt, and benefits eligible position where you will be working at 100% capacity.  

Braven also provides competitive, comprehensive benefits, recognition, and career development. While Braven reserves the right to change benefits at any time, current benefits include: 

  • Unlimited vacation time in addition to org-wide holidays and week-long shutdowns in July and the end of the calendar year (this is a minimum of 19 days per year)
  • Match of your 401K contribution up to 5% of your base annual salary, starting your first full month
  • Coverage of 85% of health insurance premium for employee and dependents
  • 12 weeks of paid parental leave
  • A one-month paid sabbatical after 4 years on staff

Location

We gather in the office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday) and work remotely 2 days a week (Monday and Friday). Therefore, this role requires teammates to live within commuting distance of Atlanta, Chicago, New York or Newark. We believe in the magic, connection, and collaboration that happens when people work together face-to-face and we believe in giving people flexibility to focus, balance personal priorities, and save themselves two commutes per week.
