The work ahead

Atlanta is home to the busiest passenger airport and is a critical global economic hub. Despite this wealth of opportunity, as of the 2022 Census, Atlanta held the largest income inequality of any large city in the nation.

Braven launched in Atlanta in 2022 and is proud to work with local partners and Spelman College to ensure more of Atlanta’s young people are prepared to launch the careers of their dreams and compete for top jobs. Earning a Spelman degree can launch a life of financial freedom, opportunity, and impact. Braven works in partnership with the College to ensure that Spelman graduates have a clear path forward to that future, a strong first job, attend graduate school and attain the career of their dreams.

In the spring of 2022, Braven launched at Spelman College, marking Braven’s first partnership with an HBCU. The founding executive director of the region, Ché Watkins, is a Spelman alumna herself.

Spelman is committed to ensuring their students are on the path to economic mobility. As part of that commitment, they’ve made the Braven experience a Spelman requirement; students begin with the Accelerator Course their sophomore year and receive support through six months after graduation.
