Put education to work

Our young people head off to college with big dreams. Their hard-earned degrees should be tickets to lives of opportunity and financial freedom. But today, a variety of barriers keep many college students from launching the strong careers they deserve. These students are underrepresented in the leadership of many sectors today—but we’re determined to ensure they won’t be tomorrow.  These students are underrepresented in the leadership of many sectors today—but we’re determined to ensure they won’t be tomorrow.

Yes! You don’t need prior experience as a mentor or coach in order to volunteer with Braven. We offer strong training and support for our volunteers.

There are different ways to volunteer with Braven, each with a different level of time commitment. Mock Interviewers commit to 2.5 hours for a single event. Leadership Coaches commit to 3 hours a week for 10 weeks, and Professional Mentors volunteer for 1.5 hours weekly for 10 weeks. Some volunteers join us for a one semester or event, and others stay involved for years.

Volunteer schedules vary by position. For example, Professional Mentors and Fellows align on a day to meet each week that’s best for both of them. Leadership Coaches join their Fellows on a specific day each week; click here for the days sessions are held through our various higher education partners. We recommend that volunteers join us after at least two years in their careers, but welcome the wisdom and expertise of volunteers at all stages. We find early-career professionals can relate to Fellows through recent experiences, for instance, while more-seasoned professionals and even retirees offer powerful advice from a wealth of experience.

The Braven community is made up of leaders who are driven, empathetic, and curious. Our volunteers are passionate about expanding opportunity in this nation and eager to work with young leaders. They welcome feedback, embracing opportunities to learn, grow, and hone their own leadership skills alongside Braven Fellows.

No. Many of our opportunities to volunteer are virtual, and we’d love to have you get involved, wherever you live. Some opportunities may be limited by time zone.

We’d love to connect with you. Please email us at volunteers@bebraven.org and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
