Impact Fellows’ lives and change your own as a Braven volunteer

Highlights

What it means to be a Braven volunteer

Our Fellows are charting their paths to a strong first job and life of impact. As a volunteer, you help pave the way. Braven’s incredible mentors and coaches stand ready to share their wisdom, leverage their networks, build strong relationships, and serve as transformative role models.

Volunteers tell us that as much as they give to our Fellows, they get back double in return. These programs offer meaningful opportunities to connect with others, make a lasting impact, and practice leading, developing, and inspiring the next generation of leaders.

Braven’s volunteer programs are open to anyone interested in participating individually, and we also welcome organizations interested in getting their employees and members involved. If you’re curious about what that could look like for your team, please look at our partnerships page or reach out at info@bebraven.org.

FAQs

Yes! You don’t need prior experience as a mentor or coach in order to volunteer with Braven. We offer strong training and support for our volunteers.

There are different ways to volunteer with Braven, each with a different level of time commitment. Mock Interviewers commit to 2.5 hours for a single event. Leadership Coaches commit to 3-4 hours a week for 10 weeks, and Professional Mentors volunteer for 1.5 hours a week for 10 weeks. Some volunteers join us for a one semester or event, and others stay involved for years.

Volunteer schedules vary by position. For example, Professional Mentors and Fellows align on a day to meet each week that’s best for both of them. Leadership Coaches join their Fellows on a specific day each week.

We welcome the wisdom and expertise of volunteers at all stages of their careers but for Leadership Coaches and Professional Mentors, we are looking for people with at least 3 years of experience post graduation. We find early-career professionals can relate to Fellows through recent experiences, for instance, while more-seasoned professionals and even retirees offer powerful advice from a wealth of experience.

The Braven community is made up of leaders who are driven, empathetic, and curious. Our volunteers are passionate about expanding opportunity in this nation and eager to work with young leaders from all backgrounds. They welcome feedback, embracing opportunities to learn, grow, and hone their own leadership skills alongside Braven Fellows.

No, all of our opportunities are virtual. Some of our sites off the chance for Leadership Coaches to attend events in person but it is not required.

For our Leadership Coach and Professional Mentor programs, we required a background check after acceptance to ensure the safety and well-being of our students given the deep level of engagement that our volunteers have with them.

The background check is conducted by B&B Reporting, a trusted third party partner with 25+ years experience.

We’d love to connect with you. Please email us at volunteers@bebraven.org and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
