About Braven

Highlights

Our founder and mission

Aimée Eubanks Davis, a proud Chicago South Side native and former 6th-grade teacher, founded Braven to address the unfulfilled promise of college for many young people. She saw that college, though considered a sure path to economic mobility, often lacked something crucial for students from humble backgrounds as they transitioned from higher education to the workforce.

Braven’s mission is to empower college students by equipping them with skills, networks, experiences, and confidence to secure strong first jobs. In collaboration with forward-thinking higher-education partners, volunteers, and employers, Braven supports these young individuals on their journey towards meaningful careers and lives of impact.

Braven's history

It's official!

In 2013, Aimée Eubanks Davis started Braven—then called Beyond Z—to ensure that every young person in the United States could access a clear path from college graduation to a strong first job. In the first year, the team started with four pilot programs, three with K-12 students and one with college students.

Our first school partner

The initial college pilot included 17 students from San José State University. They thrived in the program, and faculty at SJSU took note. Three deans in the sciences were particularly enthusiastic. They had seen too many promising students miss out on strong job opportunities after graduation, and they recognized that Braven could be part of the solution. In the fall of 2014, SJSU offered a second pilot on their campus for SJSU students alone, and 60 participated.

First time offering course credit

Braven and SJSU formalized our partnership and launched Braven’s Accelerator as a credit-bearing course for the first time. That same fall, Braven expanded our reach to the East Coast and launched at Rutgers University-Newark.

Joining the Chicago community

Braven secured our first college partnership in founder Aimeé Eubanks Davis’ hometown, Chicago. National Louis University began offering Braven’s Accelerator Course for credit in January of 2018.

The launch of BravenX

In response to growing demand from college success organizations, we launched a pilot of BravenX, which allows students to access Braven’s Accelerator Course online, no matter the college they go to.

Setting up shop in the Big Apple

Braven launched our fourth site at Lehman College (part of the City University of New York system) in January 2020.

Many firsts at two new sites

Braven launched our fifth site in Atlanta, at Spelman College. There, Braven’s Accelerator Course is both credit-bearing and a course requirement for all sophomores. That same year, Braven partnered with Northern Illinois University to offer our first intentionally fully virtual course.

Growing within the CUNY System

City College of New York and Braven build a formal partnership. As Braven approaches our 10 year anniversary in August of 2023, we’ll celebrate having over 7,000 Fellows.

New Partnerships in California and Delaware

Braven expands in California, launching at San Francisco State University (SFSU), and establishes our first public HBCU partnership with Delaware State University (DSU).

About Braven

Braven is a national nonprofit that prepares promising college students to secure a strong first opportunity after college graduation through a career-accelerating program.

We work with higher education and employer partners to offer a life-changing experience that begins with a semester-long course for college students, followed by support that lasts through graduation.

Together, our ambition is to help rebuild the middle class and revitalize the American Dream.

To learn more, take a look at Braven’s Jobs Report.

About the Role

To achieve Braven’s ambition of serving 80,000–100,000 Fellows over the next decade, Braven is hiring an Associate Director, Digital Communications & Fellow Engagement to lead a national strategy that meaningfully engages Fellows after they complete the Accelerator and through graduation.

This role is responsible for designing and owning Braven’s post-Accelerator Fellow engagement strategy, with a particular focus on leveraging communications and social media as tools for behavior change, learning, and outcomes, not just information delivery. The Director will ensure that engagement efforts drive Fellows toward Braven’s north star outcomes: internship attainment, interview readiness, and securing a strong first opportunity after college.

As a senior individual contributor within Program Operations, this role leads high-impact, cross-functional workstreams with significant organizational stakes. The Associate Director will set strategy, influence decision-making, and build scalable systems to increase Fellow participation in post-Accelerator programming, career pathways, and community engagement, especially through MyBraven and social platforms.

This role reports to the Head of Program Operations and works closely with Design, Communications & Marketing, Systems & Data, and Regional teams.

What You’ll Do

Develop and Own the National Post-Accelerator Fellow Engagement Strategy (60%)

  • Design and own Braven’s national post-Accelerator Fellow engagement strategy, setting direction and standards for how we engage Fellows through graduation using scalable, data-informed approaches.
  • Shift Braven’s Fellow communications from primarily informational to engagement-driven, ensuring messaging and content drive participation in high-impact behaviors tied to career outcomes.
  • Partner closely with Career Communities Directors to ensure communications drive Fellow participation in industry-specific and pathway-specific programming, including graduate school and service year pathways.
  • Own the Fellow engagement strategy for the MyBraven platform, driving adoption, usage, and sustained participation while contributing insights to platform optimization decisions.
  • Establish and monitor engagement metrics that are explicitly connected to Fellow outcomes (e.g., internship attainment, interview readiness, strong first opportunity), ensuring strategy drives results—not just activity.
  • Lead cross-functional alignment and decision-making across Program Operations, Product, Systems, and Marketing to ensure engagement efforts operate as a cohesive national system.
  • Determine the most effective channels and formats (e.g., platform content, social media, email, text) for engaging post-Accelerator Fellows based on data and Fellow behavior.
  • Build feedback loops and continuous improvement mechanisms to refine engagement strategies based on performance, Fellow input, and outcomes data.

Lead Social Media as a Core Engagement and Learning Channel for Fellows (30%)

  • Design and lead Braven’s social media engagement strategy for post-Accelerator Fellows, positioning social platforms as a key channel for education, skill-building, and motivation—not just brand awareness.
  • Partner with Communications & Marketing to align Fellow-facing social content with Braven’s broader brand strategy while clearly differentiating goals, audiences, and success metrics.
  • Define and evolve national vs. regional social media strategies to ensure consistency, relevance, and scalability across markets.
  • Research, test, and implement best practices from high-engagement, student-centered, and early-career social accounts to increase reach, participation, and impact.
  • Use social media as an extension of Braven’s career education model—reinforcing key mindsets, skills, deadlines, and opportunities that support Fellows’ progress toward internships and strong first opportunities.
  • Establish clear metrics for social engagement that connect to downstream behaviors and outcomes, and iterate strategy accordingly.

Lateral Leadership and Organizational Influence (10%)

  • Lead significant cross-functional initiatives and change management efforts, influencing stakeholders without direct authority to drive adoption of new engagement strategies and systems.
  • Serve as a thought partner and advisor to senior leaders on post-Accelerator Fellow engagement, participation trends, and risks to outcomes.
  • Lead and laterally manage regional staff, contractors, and student ambassadors, contributing to Fellow engagement and social content execution.
  • Prepare to take on direct people management responsibilities (e.g., interns or future FTEs) as the function scales.
  • Represent Braven internally and externally as a leader in postsecondary student engagement and career-focused community building.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • 5-7 years of progressive experience in engagement strategy, communications, or related fields, including leading complex, cross-functional workstreams.
  • Demonstrated experience developing digital engagement strategies that drive measurable behavior change, not just message delivery.
  • Strong systems-thinking skills, with the ability to design, execute, and iterate on engagement models that operate at a national scale.
  • Experience using data and insights to connect engagement efforts to outcomes and inform strategic decision-making.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing engagement strategies for postsecondary students, alumni, or early-career professionals, particularly in workforce development or higher education contexts.
  • Deep understanding of social media and digital engagement trends among Gen Z and emerging Gen Alpha audiences.
  • Experience leveraging platforms such as Salesforce, CRM tools, or digital community platforms to drive participation and learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive alignment across national and regional teams.
  • Strong analytical orientation with comfort defining success metrics, interpreting data, and making strategic tradeoffs.
  • Proven ability to thrive in ambiguity, lead through change, and translate complexity into clear direction.
  • Experience that has informed your belief in Braven’s mission and prepared you to work closely with Braven’s Fellow population.

Please know that no one ever meets 100% of the preferred qualifications. If much of this describes you, we encourage you to apply.

In order to achieve its ambition of serving 80,000-100,000 Fellows over the next decade, Braven is hiring a Director, Strategic Operations, who will serve as the operational engine of the People & Operations function.

The People & Operations (P&O) team spans four verticals: People & Culture, Legal, Finance, and Facilities & Operations. Each vertical is led by a subject matter expert. What connects them and what keeps the CFAO and those leads focused on their highest-impact work is this role. You will own the internal rhythm of the P&O department, drive cross-functional coordination, and ensure that strategy translates into execution without things falling through the cracks.

This is not a role for someone who waits to be told what to do next. You will be in the room when decisions are made, hear the direction, and move. You read context well, operate comfortably in ambiguity, and understand that the most effective support is often invisible, and it happens before anyone has to ask.

You bring a proactive, judgment-driven approach to your work. You anticipate what the team needs, surface the right information at the right time, and execute with a level of ownership that reflects your understanding of what is at stake across the P&O portfolio.

This role is on the People & Operations team and reports directly to the Chief Finance & Admin Officer.

What You’ll Do

P&O Department Operations & Coordination (40%)

  • Own the internal operational rhythm of the P&O team, including planning cycles, goal-setting processes, quarterly alignment, and weekly coordination structures
  • Maintain a shared view of the P&O roadmap across all four verticals, tracking key milestones, surfacing dependencies, and flagging risks before they escalate
  • Develop and distribute team communications, planning guides, and process documents proactively — without waiting for direction from the CFAO
  • Support the CFAO in preparing for Alignment Team, CEO, and Board-level engagements related to P&O functions, including drafting materials, preparing pre-reads, and ensuring follow-through on action items
  • Design and lead P&O team meetings, stepbacks, and retreats, including agenda development, pre-work, and post-meeting follow-through
  • Serve as the knowledge management lead for P&O, maintaining shared documentation and ensuring process clarity across the department
  • Track and report on key performance indicators across the P&O function, gathering and presenting data on operational health, project milestones, and initiative progress

Cross-Functional Project Management (35%)

  • Lead projects that span multiple P&O functions, serving as the project manager for complex, cross-vertical initiatives such as ERP implementations, office transitions, and org-wide compliance efforts
  • Act as the central liaison between P&O and the broader organization, translating priorities across teams and ensuring P&O commitments are visible and on track
  • Identify and resolve dependencies and resource conflicts across P&O verticals in partnership with function leads, resolving what you can and escalating only what requires CFAO judgment
  • Design and execute cyclical reporting on P&O operations for central leaders and the broader organization

Cross-Organizational Representation & Coordination (20%)

  • Serve as the primary P&O liaison to other organizational teams, representing P&O priorities in cross-functional meetings and ensuring follow-through on commitments made outside the department
  • Attend meetings on behalf of the CFAO when appropriate, synthesizing key takeaways and surfacing decisions or action items that require CFAO attention
  • Manage pre-work, agendas, and follow-up for cross-functional engagements that involve P&O, ensuring that alignment reached in those settings translates into action
  • Coordinate P&O team onboarding for new hires across verticals, partnering with the People & Culture team to ensure a seamless experience

Ad Hoc & Strategic Support (5%)

  • Support the CFAO with unplanned, time-sensitive requests arising from the dynamic nature of a growing organization, including drafting communications, preparing materials for urgent stakeholder engagements, and executing on organizational priorities as they emerge.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in a senior operations, strategic program management, or organizational effectiveness role
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder workstreams with a high degree of autonomy
  • Track record of operating in ambiguous environments and creating structure where little exists
  • Fluency in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides) and project management tools

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting a C-suite leader or senior executive in an operational capacity
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear, audience-appropriate communications quickly and with minimal direction
  • Exceptional ability to synthesize information, identify the most important thread, and move forward without needing every detail resolved
  • Experience in the education, government, or nonprofit sector
  • Demonstrated commitment to building strong and welcoming cultures that help to develop others.
  • Exemplification of Braven’s core values.
  • Experience that has informed your belief in Braven’s mission and has prepared you to work with, or for, Braven’s student Fellow population.

To learn more, take a look at Braven’s Jobs Report.

About the Role

In order to achieve its ambition of serving 80,000-100,000 Fellows over the next decade, Braven is hiring a Director, Transformation and Operations, to join the newly formed Transformation team. Transformation is charged with ensuring that we are seeing around corners and prepared to maximize the strategic opportunities in our future. Your role is to take the ideas that matter most and make them real. You’ll lead the design and execution of key transformation initiatives — currently AI adoption, market intelligence, and process innovation for quality at scale, three of our largest organizational risks at our current inflection point in growth. While you don’t manage anyone directly, you will manage across many internal stakeholders, and your ability to move people toward shared outcomes without direct authority is critical to your success. You’re energized by ambiguity, you think in systems, and you genuinely love figuring out what “cutting edge” means for an organization that is paving the way. You enjoy bringing structure to ambiguous problems without flattening the complexity, and you know when to slow down and define the question before rushing to answer it.

The person in this role thrives in a startup environment where job descriptions are starting points, not ceilings — willing to roll up your sleeves across whatever the mission needs.

This role is a part of the Office of the Chief Executive Officer and reports directly to the Head of Transformation.

What You’ll Do

Lead, Design, and Launch Special Initiatives (50%)

  • Create strategic plans that translate vision into execution for special initiatives owned by the Transformation team (inclusive of multi-year roadmaps, short-term project plans, stakeholder communications maps, risk mitigation strategies, learnings from market intelligence, etc.)
  • Synthesize insights and recommendations for senior leaders to guide ongoing strategy
  • Manage the execution of a wide variety of teammates towards success, adapting strategies and frameworks as needed
  • Initial projects within your scope will include ensuring we have enterprise-wide quality systems as we scale, and strong execution and enablement of our holistic approach to AI
  • Build internal buy-in with evolving and cross-cutting projects, meeting people where they are, and making the unfamiliar feel approachable, for any special initiatives
  • Serve as an internal resource for “what’s possible” — translating data and ideas into practical, mission-aligned use cases we can actually act on
  • Embrace the reality that we’re figuring this out as we go — and help the team feel steady while we do
  • Lead and influence cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment (i.e., teams will not directly report into this role) to bring initiatives to life, fostering a culture of excellence, continuous learning, collaboration, and innovation

Operations Infrastructure & Project Management (30%)

  • Create and own the project plans behind our transformation initiatives while building timelines, setting milestones, tracking dependencies, and keeping cross-functional work moving forward
  • Turn big-picture organizational priorities into specific, sequenced actions with real owners and real deadlines, and follow up on them without oversight from your manager
  • Build and improve our team’s operating infrastructures while increasing process efficiency, developing new processes, and training others in these areas
  • Create lightweight but durable operating systems: the trackers, templates, and check-in rhythms that give a small team visibility into a lot of moving parts
  • Ensure these integrate with and streamline/simplify organizational processes, vs. create additional complexity
  • Flag risks and potential blockers early; bring proposed solutions, not just problems
  • Coordinate internal teammates and external collaborators toward shared goals — without relying on formal authority to get things done
  • Develop high-quality memos, briefings, and presentation materials to support executive-level decision-making and external stakeholder engagement
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to enhance our nimbleness as we grow and ensure alignment with broader organizational strategic objectives

Research and Analysis (Market Intelligence) (20%)

  • Develop and maintain systems for gathering and organizing strategic market intelligence so findings are accurate, accessible, and updated regularly
  • Ensure a variety of voices/stakeholders internally and externally, especially ones that might be overlooked or seemingly irrelevant, are incorporated
  • Monitor and analyze trends, regulatory changes, and technological advancements across sectors, including workforce development, AI in higher education, and employer expectations, to identify positioning opportunities and threats for Braven
  • Track what peer organizations, edtech organizations, university career centers, and employers are doing; codify what that means for our work, and identify white space where we can lead
  • Synthesize findings from articles, podcasts, research, newsletters, conferences, and partner conversations into crisp, actionable briefings for leadership and staff
  • Connect macro trends — including AI in recruiting, shifting employer expectations, and changing student needs — to near-term decisions Braven can make today
  • Lead efforts to identify, evaluate, and integrate AI tools and partnerships from a market intelligence and positioning lens, in coordination with Systems and Product
  • Translate complex data into clear strategic insights with actionable recommendations for senior leadership; deliver concise, impactful reports/presentations to key stakeholders
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders on competitive positioning, offering recommendations grounded in evidence
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
  • 5+ years of strategic operations experience with the proven ability of managing complex projects and lead others to outcomes

  • Exceptional ability to synthesize information, identify the most important thread, and move forward without needing every detail resolved
  • Experience in the education or nonprofit sector, or in consulting
  • Comfort and fluency with AI tools (e.g., Claude) and a curiosity about how technology can drive mission-aligned work; ability to navigate myriad tech systems (e.g., Asana/Trello, Salesforce, Zoom)
  • Track record of operating in ambiguous environments and creating structure where little exists
  • Demonstrated commitment to building strong and welcoming cultures that help to develop others

In order to achieve its ambition of serving 80,000-100,000 Fellows over the next decade, Braven is hiring a Director, Transformation and Strategy, to join the newly formed Transformation team. Transformation is charged with ensuring we see around corners and are prepared to maximize strategic opportunities in our future. Your role is to incubate and then hand off initiatives that are critical to our organization’s success.

You’ll do the work of launching pilot projects, figuring out what should be consistent across the organization, and determining what has to be unique to meet the needs of the student population and/or local landscape to scale. You bring a broad toolkit: you will design and execute programs, articulate and assess the business case for initiatives, analyze data and learnings, and build the operational foundation that makes the initiative sustainable and scalable – and you thrive on this.

While you don’t manage anyone directly, you will manage across many internal stakeholders, and your ability to move people toward shared outcomes without direct authority is critical to your success. You’re energized by ambiguity, you take initiative before being asked, you think in systems, and you genuinely love figuring out what “cutting edge” means for an organization that is paving the way. You enjoy bringing structure to ambiguous problems without flattening the complexity, and you know when to slow down and define the question before rushing to answer it.

This role calls for adaptability as Braven’s transformation agenda evolves, and your scope will grow with it. To start, you will play a pivotal and dynamic role in deepening our career partnerships with universities, helping to explore and launch an evolution of our core model. Strong contributors here thrive in a startup environment where job descriptions are starting points, not ceilings, and are willing to roll up their sleeves to support whatever the mission needs. This is a small team culture where everyone pitches in, shares credit, and stays focused on student impact.

This role is a part of the Office of the Chief Executive Officer and reports directly to the Head of Transformation.

What You’ll Do

Set Strategy and Own the Business Case (40%)

  • Develop and own Braven’s multi-year strategy for key pilot initiatives — synthesizing insights from program delivery, partner relationships, financial modeling, and student outcome data into a coherent, evidence-based framework
  • Build and maintain the business case for key pilot initiatives as a scalable Braven offering: model unit economics, cost per student, and revenue potential across partner types; translate findings into recommendations for Braven leadership and, where appropriate, external stakeholders
  • Establish consistent measurement baselines (including financial, programmatic metrics) so we can make data-driven decisions and meaningful comparisons over time and across pilot partners, surfacing ROI and risks/opportunities on an ongoing basis
  • Gather updates from across the team and synthesize them into cohesive, well-structured presentations that reflect both progress and honest challenges
  • Prepare materials, briefings, and talking points for board meetings — distilling complex program activity into clear, compelling narratives for a non-operational audience
  • Conducts ongoing landscape research to stay current on what is happening in the industry (on university campuses, peer organizations, etc.) and test our assumptions about the model.

Deliver Program Outcomes (35%)

  • Develop a scalable program framework and multi-year roadmap that aligns with Braven’s mission and current model, and enables us to pivot towards new future opportunities
  • Execute pilots, launching a suite of programming at initial partner sites, and assess what’s working and build a clear framework for what can be replicated versus what needs to be redesigned for each new context, culture, and student population
  • Define what should be consistent across pilot contexts and what must be adapted, honoring institutional differences while staying true to our model and principles
  • Build authentic relationships with collaborating teams to understand their goals and constraints well enough to be a genuine thought partner (vs. a vendor)
  • Define how we partner effectively with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen relationships, increase efficiency, and ensure strong outcomes
  • Build the operational scaffolding behind launch work — the checklists, timelines, communication templates, and handoff documents that make programs sustainable beyond your direct involvement
  • Create and own project plans across program initiatives — timelines, milestones, cross-functional dependencies — and keep work moving forward with minimal oversight
  • Conceive, design, and execute specific programs that get participants genuinely excited about the results
  • Create and own the project plans behind our program initiatives while building timelines, setting milestones, tracking dependencies, and keeping cross-functional work moving forward
  • Manage all logistics end-to-end: vision, venue, promotion, materials, execution, and follow-up  with little hand-holding and strong attention to detail
  • Debrief every program honestly — what worked, what flopped, what to try next time — and feed those insights back into the overall design

Drive Organizational Learning and Operations (25%)

  • Design and run a data collection campaign to capture key outcomes
  • Build the forms, trackers, and processes that make data collection feel easy for stakeholders — low friction, high compliance
  •  Synthesize findings into clear, compelling narratives for a wide variety of audiences — from student-facing summaries to Alignment Team briefings to board-level presentations
  • Ensure data is actionable, not just reported; ensure reports are simple and useful
  • Develop high-quality memos, briefings, and presentation materials for high-stakes meetings with external key stakeholders
  • Document learnings from each launch in a way that makes the next one faster and smarter and we add to our institutional knowledge base
  • Support the broader team in understanding what the data says about the outcomes, and implications for future decisions

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
  • 7+ years of strong track record of managing multiple complex, cross-functional strategic initiatives and leading others to outcomes – including building or launching a new program, function, or business line from the ground up
  • Track record of operating in ambiguous environments and creating structure where little exists, requiring constant iteration and resourcefulness

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exceptional ability to collaborate and work in cross-functional teams
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear, audience-appropriate communications quickly and with minimal direction
  • Exceptional ability to synthesize information, identify what should stay consistent, and where adjustments are needed due to various contexts
  • Demonstrated ability to move between strategic altitude and hands-on execution: you have set the strategy and built the business case, and you have also done the operational work yourself
  • Track record of influencing and driving alignment across senior stakeholders — including organizational leadership — without formal authority
  •  Strong financial acumen: experience building business cases, modeling unit economics, and translating financial analysis into strategic recommendations for senior leaders
  • Experience in the education or nonprofit sector
  • Fluency in Asana, Trello, Salesforce, and Claude, Zoom, and Slack are ideal; ability to navigate myriad technology tools
  • A genuine appreciation for and enjoyment of the dynamic, fast-paced energy of a college campus, coupled with an ability to connect authentically with diverse stakeholders, ranging from students to university leadership.
  • Demonstrated commitment to building strong and welcoming cultures that help to develop others
  • Exemplification of Braven’s core values
  • Experience that has informed your belief in Braven’s mission and has prepared you to work with, or for, Braven’s student Fellow population

Please know that no one ever meets 100% of the preferred qualifications. If much of this describes you, we encourage you to apply.

In order to achieve its ambition of serving 80,000–100,000 Fellows over the next decade, Braven is hiring a Head of  Program Design who will own the evolution, quality, and integrity of every program experience Braven puts in front of students, volunteers, and staff, serving as both the lead builder and the person responsible for setting the standards for how those experiences are designed.

Braven’s program is built around a core belief: that students build career readiness by developing the right skills, networks, experiences, and confidence. Everything the Design team builds is in service of that equation. As the leader of the Design team and a member of the Product Leadership Team, you will translate evidence from Braven’s research and real-time signals from the field into high-quality, pedagogically sound program assets and learning sequences that can be delivered across dozens of campuses with varying academic lengths (e.g., semester, quarter, summer school, etc.) at scale.

You hold the line on adult learning best practices regardless of timeline pressure or competing priorities, and you ensure that every staff member and volunteer who facilitates a Braven program experience understands both what they’re teaching and why it’s built the way it is. We’re also looking for someone with a genuinely entrepreneurial orientation, someone who is deeply curious about how other organizations are solving the college-to-career challenge, and who brings that curiosity back into how Braven evolves its own approach. Critically, this person must be able to hold two things as connected rather than in tension: the commitment to human-centered, pedagogically excellent design and the imperative to simplify and scale. The program has to work for the student sitting in front of it and for the institution delivering it at volume. Seeing those as the same challenge — not competing ones — is a prerequisite for excellence in this role.

This role is on the Product team and reports directly to the Chief Product Officer.

What You’ll Do

Build, Steward, and Evolve Braven’s Program Experience (30%)

  • Design and evolve the entire program experience continuum, which starts with the Accelerator course and extends to supporting our Fellows for 6 months after graduation.
  • Maintain a growing high-quality multi-modal library (in-person, virtual, and on-demand) of program experiences, including workshops, learning modules, facilitated sequences, stand-alone resources, on-demand tools, and event designs that help students build the skills, networks, experiences, and confidence needed to secure strong first opportunities after college.
  • Create and pilot new program assets in response to what program staff is observing in the field and/or our higher education partners lift up as a need/interest — when teams flag that students are struggling or that a specific need has emerged, your team builds the response, keeping scale and simplicity front and center.
  • Translate findings from Braven’s research team into concrete design decisions, ensuring that what the evidence says students need is actually reflected in how every experience is structured, sequenced, and facilitated, partnering with execution teams to ensure the program is delivered as intended
  • Maintain and refresh program assets over time by updating content regularly based on stakeholder feedback, student outcome data, and shifts in the college-to-career landscape, including staying up to speed on how the context is shifting with students (e.g., pandemic moment that required more online to a digital learning fatigue moment six years after the pandemic) and/or the labor market (e.g., employers are scaling up dramatically so job acquisition is easier including remote work to labor market is shrinking because of over hiring and now how AI is shaping the realities students face in the job market)
  • Keep an eye towards what must be true at scale, adjusting designs over time based on feasibility constraints or new technology realities that have ripple effects into designs.
  • Be the consummate learner and consumer of our in-person and digital products, in order to stay proximate to the field as well as on the cutting edge of what is to come

Set and Hold the Standard for Quality and Integrity of Program Experiences (25%)

  • Define, ensure the execution of, and evolve Braven’s standards for high-quality program design, including how experiences are structured, how long they run, how learning is assessed, and how facilitation is approached.
  • Ensure all program experiences are grounded in adult learning science, cultural competence (including that of a particular higher education institution), and reflect a deep understanding of Braven’s students, predominantly first-generation college students and students from low-income backgrounds, navigating the transition from college to career.
  • Stay current on the external field — career readiness research, employer expectations, evolving best practices in adult learning, highly-resourced colleges’ career preparation evolutions, digital tools, and bring that knowledge into Braven’s design work.

Prepare Staff and Volunteers to Facilitate with Confidence and Fidelity (20%)

  • Design and deliver ongoing training that equips program staff and volunteers who are on the front lines with students every day to understand Braven’s approach to career readiness topics, and can deliver to students coherent, consistent guidance.
  • Design and deliver training on design intent so that facilitators understand why an experience is built the way it is, and can make good judgment calls when they need to adapt in the moment.
  • Ensure training and staff enablement are built into each new program from the start, making them a core part of a complete, high-quality experience.
  • Lead conversations with staff about what is likely to come next in the programmatic experience’s evolution.

Lead the Team and Shape Program Strategy (25%)

  • Lead, develop, and grow a team of designers who are responsible for the full scope of design work across Braven’s program experience, from the Accelerator course to post-course support for Fellows, which lasts until six months post graduation.
  • Manage the team as well as the team’s mental agility in a way that allows for business as usual, as well as the ability to flex, be nimble, and start to innovate in a manner that meets the moment.
  • Serve as a member of Braven’s Product Leadership Team, contributing design expertise to cross-functional decisions about what the program should do next, how it should evolve, and what it will take to deliver it at scale.
  • Partner with colleagues across Research, Data, Program Delivery, and Operations to ensure design decisions are grounded in evidence, informed by what’s happening in the field, and set up to be delivered well.
  • Engage directly, including online and ground-based visits with the field to inform perspective.
  • Bring a constant eye toward program simplification while regularly asking which design elements are truly essential for student outcomes, where the program has accumulated complexity that doesn’t drive value, and how to redesign experiences that are both excellent and more scalable over time.
  • Partner across the organization with program delivery teams, operations, and technology to identify where design changes could unlock scale, and help Braven distill the program architecture toward what it truly needs to be as it grows.
  • Help scope and grow the Design team as the organization scales toward serving 25,000+ Fellows.
  • Serve as a member of the “One Braven” leadership team, contributing to org-wide strategy and stewarding a healthy, high-performing culture for both your immediate team and the broader organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Expert practitioner in human-centered design and adult learning science, with a strong point of view on what makes a learning experience work for adults, especially adults navigating high-stakes career moments
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining a program or curriculum library that serves multiple delivery teams or contexts. You know how to design for reuse, not just for one-time use
  • Experience designing human-centered learning experiences that scale through technology.
  • Experience designing training for the people who deliver your programs, not just the content itself, but the facilitation guides, design rationale, and enablement that help others teach it well
  • Experience and agility with keeping old, evolving, and piloting new designs all at the same time.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communicator who expresses ideas clearly, simply, and with strong design instincts
  • Competent in synthesizing multiple data types such as observations, user interviews, research, feedback, and quantitative data to identify root problems and drive design improvements
  • Deep alignment with Braven’s core values and a belief in Braven’s mission, informed by experience working with or for student populations like Braven’s Fellows — predominantly people of color from low-income backgrounds
  • Proven track record of building and growing high-performing teams, including developing talent at multiple levels and scoping new roles as an organization grows
  • Strategic thinker who can hold both the quality of a single experience and the coherence of the full student journey simultaneously, you can zoom in and zoom out

Compensation and Benefits

Braven offers competitive base salaries based on the midpoint of the market among not-for-profit organizations of similar size, with opportunities for salary growth over time. We believe in compensating staff members fairly in relation to each other, their qualifications, and their impact on behalf of the organization, and take internal and external equity seriously. Given our commitment to equity, Braven does not negotiate salary offers; instead, each salary offer is determined carefully using external and internal benchmarking.

Starting salary within the range is determined by role scope and qualifications, with new hires starting at the lower end to allow for growth with performance. Braven does not base compensation on individual candidate salary expectations and is committed to maintaining internal equity. The salary ranges, by geographic market, for this role are set forth $105,500-$131,800 in Atlanta, $111,300-$139,100 in Chicago, $122,500-$153,100 in New York and Newark, NJ. Job Title: Senior Director of Program Operations – Post-Accelerator

Team: Product

Location: Hybrid in Atlanta (GA), Chicago (IL), New York (NY), Newark (NJ)

Employment Type: Full-time

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Start Date: ASAP

About Braven

Braven is a national nonprofit that prepares promising college students to secure a strong first opportunity after college graduation through a career-accelerating program.

We work with higher education and employer partners to offer a life-changing experience that begins with a semester-long course for college students, followed by support that lasts through graduation.

Together, our ambition is to help rebuild the middle class and revitalize the American Dream.

To learn more, take a look at Braven’s Jobs Report.

About the Role

In order to achieve its ambition of serving 80,000-100,000 Fellows over the next decade, Braven is hiring a  Senior Director of Program Operations to own the operational excellence and strategic growth of all programming that supports our Post-Accelerator Fellows (PAFs) after they complete our Accelerator course.

Unlike the Accelerator, which is credit-bearing and embedded in a student’s coursework, post-accelerator programming is entirely voluntary. That makes operational quality mission-critical: the way we design, deliver, and continuously improve our programming directly determines whether PAFs show up, stay engaged, and ultimately secure strong first opportunities within six months of graduation — Braven’s north star outcome.

This leader will manage a team of Associate Directors and a Project Manager to operationalize a diverse portfolio of programs, the Professional Mentor Program, Career Communities, the Ready to Launch Bootcamp, other programming, and Post-Accelerator Fellow engagement through Braven’s social media presence. They will be responsible not only for the excellent day-to-day execution of these programs but also for building the operational systems, team capabilities, and strategic vision that will enable Braven’s post-accelerator work to scale. A critical dimension of this role is building and maintaining the operational infrastructure that enables both central and regional colleagues to execute post-accelerator programming with consistency and excellence.

This role is on the Product team and reports directly to the Head of Program Operations.

What You’ll Do

Post-Accelerator Program Operations Leadership (50%)

  • Own the operational strategy, quality, and continuous improvement of Braven’s full suite of post-accelerator programs, including the Professional Mentor Program, Career Communities events, and the Ready to Launch Bootcamp.
  • Oversee the design and delivery of asynchronous programming — including Case Management, Referral Systems, Job Boards, and opportunity newsletters — ensuring these touchpoints are high-quality, timely, and effective at keeping PAFs engaged.
  • Set clear operational standards and accountability structures across programs, ensuring Associate Directors and the Project Manager have the tools, clarity, and support they need to execute excellently.
  • Monitor program performance through data; identify trends, gaps, and opportunities to strengthen outcomes and use insights to drive continuous improvement.

Team Management & Cross-Functional Leadership (30%)

  • Directly manage a team of 4+ staff, including Associate Directors of Post-Accelerator Operations and Fellow Engagement & Communications, and a Project Manager of Post-Accelerator Operations.
  • Develop and coach direct reports, fostering a culture of high performance, learning, collaboration, and equity within the team.
  • Lead team goal-setting, workload management, and professional development, ensuring each team member is set up to thrive and grow.
  • Serve as the primary operational partner to the Post-Accelerator Design and Execution team, building and sustaining the infrastructure tools, workflows, documentation, and training that enable both central and regional staff to execute post-accelerator programming; and partner closely with Systems, Volunteer, and other Product sub-teams to drive alignment and collaborative problem-solving on initiatives that impact PAFs.
  • Represent post-accelerator operations in organizational planning conversations, advocating for the resources, systems, and visibility this work requires to succeed.

Innovation & Strategic Scaling (20%)

  • Develop and champion a multi-year operational vision for post-accelerator programming that anticipates growth and builds toward scale.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline, systematize, and innovate across programs by designing smarter workflows, strengthening knowledge management infrastructure, and improving onboarding and training for the team.
  • Proactively identify gaps in current systems, tools, processes, and automations that constrain the program’s scalability, and bring those gaps to the Systems Team with sufficient operational context and prioritization rationale to enable effective scoping and solutioning.
  • Leverage proficiency in operational tools such as Tableau or equivalent Data Visualization tools, Salesforce or equivalent CRMs, Airtable, and Jira Service Management or equivalent ticketing and workflow platforms to build, optimize, and automate program operations infrastructure without heavy reliance on the Systems or Technology team.
  • Lead or contribute to cross-functional strategic projects that advance Braven’s ability to serve PAFs at scale.
  • Stay current on trends in career development, alumni engagement, and nonprofit program operations to bring fresh thinking and best practices to Braven’s work.
  • Partner with the Head of Program Operations and the Head of Post-Accelerator Execution on organizational and product strategy, contributing a post-accelerator operational lens to broader programmatic decisions and ensuring operations and program execution remain tightly aligned.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS Degree
  • 8+ years of professional experience, with at least 5+ years in a people management or team leadership role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success leading operational functions at scale, ideally in a nonprofit, education, or EdTech context.
  • Experience managing multi-program portfolios and leading teams of diverse functions and skill sets.
  • Adaptable problem-solver, comfortable with ambiguity, and able to translate complexity into clear solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to independently configure, troubleshoot, and optimize operational tools — such as Tableau or equivalent, Salesforce or equivalent, Airtable, and Jira Service Management or equivalent platforms — to streamline and scale program processes without requiring ongoing Systems or Tech team support
  • Demonstrated ability to serve as an effective operational thought partner with technical teams, being able to translate program needs and workflow challenges into clear problem statements, engage in productive cross-functional dialogue, and contribute meaningfully to conversations about systems design and prioritization without requiring deep technical expertise.
  • Strong ability to prioritize, delegate, collaborate cross-functionally, and drive results
  • Demonstrated commitment to building strong and welcoming cultures that help to develop others.
  • Exemplification of Braven’s core values.
  • Experience that has informed your belief in Braven’s mission and has prepared you to work with, or for, Braven’s student Fellow population.

Please know that no one ever meets 100% of the preferred qualifications. If much of this describes you, we encourage you to apply.

  • Ability to work in-person in  Atlanta (GA), Chicago (IL), New York (NY), or Newark (NJ)  3 days per week
  • Ability to travel approximately 6 times per year to other Braven locations
  • Ability to travel to in-person Braven events, including some evening and weekend events as needed

Additional Requirements

  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Braven doesn’t offer employment visa sponsorship
