What is Braven & our mission

Braven’s mission is to equip promising college students with the skills, networks, confidence, and experience necessary to transition from college to strong economic opportunities.

In collaboration with forward-thinking 12 higher-education partners, volunteers, and employers, Braven supports these young individuals on their journey towards meaningful careers and lives of impact.

A group of people sit and stand around a table indoors; some are smiling and giving high fives, while others watch and chat.

The program

  • Meet virtually with students for 2 hours per week at regularly scheduled times
  • Facilitate weekly sessions using Braven’s evidence-based curriculum
  • Receive training and support from staff to enhance and expand your leadership skills
Two people have a conversation indoors; one gestures while wearing glasses and a shirt with "RAVE" on it, the other listens attentively. Buffet trays are visible in the background.

The time commitment

Being part of Braven’s most high-impact program includes dedicated training, onboarding, and support. While the commitment is significant, Leadership Coaches routinely share that as much as they give, they gain twice as much. Even more, participating advances their own careers in ways they never expected.

FAQs

Fellows are college students who are building the skills, confidence, and networks they need to launch strong careers after graduation. Most take the Braven course for credit, while others receive a stipend. The majority are the first in their family to go to college and/or have limited financial resources.

Leadership Coach opportunities are virtual, allowing volunteers to support Fellows from anywhere.

Absolutely! You can still pass along your valuable work and career experience to our Fellows.

All volunteers participate in a pre-program training that provides you with the resources needed to participate. You’ll also receive weekly preparation materials and support from Braven staff throughout the experience.

Leadership Coaches often report strengthening their leadership, facilitation, and coaching skills while expanding their own professional networks.

For our Leadership Coach role, we require a background check after acceptance to ensure the safety and well-being of our students, given the deep level of engagement our volunteers have with them. The background check is conducted by B&B Reporting, a trusted third-party partner with 25+ years of experience.

Volunteering with Braven gives you hands-on experience in mentoring and coaching, which strengthens leadership, communication, and coaching skills necessary in any career. Many volunteers also say that guiding Fellows expands their own professional networks and provides insights that enhance their career growth.
